Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period such as this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
