The Gunners' boss remains confident that his squad can keep managing with fitness issues following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

Havertz has been absent since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his training and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This news creates a selection headache for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Additional concerns involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Chelsea match. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on new players ahead of this season has placed the club in a more robust situation to deal with such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if increased squad depth was aiding their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, since the current term has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the defence,” he added.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in various roles, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Havertz

Addressing the complication highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration being outside.”

“His availability record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back around the team and playing because I think it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
