Stateside entertainer Finn, who was seen in popular television series like Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has succumbed aged 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer passed away at his residence in Los Angeles on Monday after undergoing cancer treatment from 2022 onward, as reported by media reports.

"He saw everyone as a friend - solely future friends he hadn't encountered," his relatives said in a message.

They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with happiness and energy".

A Notable Television Career

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he portrayed the brother of the main character.

He subsequently landed a repeating character on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He played the part of a party host named Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in the late 90s, portraying a host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

During the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he made guest appearances on numerous popular shows, including:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

He was most recognized for portraying Bill Norwood in "The Middle", starring in eight series between 2011 and 2018.

His film credits include It's Complicated and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Away from his acting parts, Finn was an improv performer and also taught at the Colorado university, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe called Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn guided, supported, and advised numerous pupils throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find a person anyplace who has a bad thing to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, colleague and actor actor Richard Kind remarked there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Always positive, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A great dad, a great guy," he posted publicly.

Finn is leaves behind his wife Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
