Fast bowler Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The England team reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
