Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Against 38 Patients

Legal authorities have stated that a ex- doctor has been charged with carrying out assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
