Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
