Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
