Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter Milan in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez scored a second-half brace to earn his side a 2-0 victory at Pisa, keeping the visitors firmly involved in the Italian league championship battle despite a less than convincing display.

Under manager Cristian Chivu, Inter currently sit in third position in the standings with 27 points total, tied with second-placed Roma and only one point behind leaders Milan. Meanwhile, Pisa hold the third bottom position with 10 points.

Inter arrived in Tuscany aiming to return to winning ways after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a European loss at Atlético Madrid. Nonetheless, they were made to battle all the way by promoted Pisa. The hosts created numerous opportunities, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez drilled a first-time shot into the top of the net. The forward then tapped in from point-blank with seven minutes remaining.
Inter’s ability to score even with difficult circumstances proved crucial in earning three points.

In Spain, the Basque side mounted a dramatic comeback from 2-0 down to equalize at home against Villarreal, only to succumb to a late strike five minutes into stoppage time. Villarreal’s goals came from Ayoze Pérez just after the half-hour mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler quickly reduced the deficit and Ander Barrenetxea equalised three minutes from time. Yet, Moleiro had the last word late in added time.
