Supporters Demand Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account contains videos of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Safety
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely bond between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, earning two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
