The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
