The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
