The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
