This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
