Trump Calls Families of Injured Guard Personnel to the White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support public safety in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy caused the government to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
